We’re delighted to welcome Francis “Franny” Benali to the Isle of Wight Literary Festival!
A true Southampton FC legend, Franny played nearly 400 games for his hometown club before taking on a new challenge: a series of gruelling ultra-endurance charity events that raised over £1.4 million for Cancer Research UK. His incredible determination has earned him national recognition, including an MBE, the Barclays Spirit of the Game Award, and the title of JustGiving Celebrity Fundraiser of the Year.
📖 Franny tells his remarkable story in his autobiography “Francis Benali: Football Man to Iron Fran”, written with sportswriter Matt Barlow. Shortlisted for the Sunday Times Sports Book Awards 2022, it’s an honest, moving and uplifting account of his life on the pitch, his endurance challenges, and his unrelenting spirit.
✨“Anyone wanting an example of never being beaten should look at the incredible Francis Benali.” – Alan Shearer
